5 Signs You’re Under-Eating (Not Overeating)

August 3, 2026 · by awrangealerts@gmail.com

Most people assume a stalled fat-loss journey means they need to eat less. In reality, one of the most common mistakes I see is the opposite problem — eating too little for too long.

1. Your energy has quietly disappeared

Not “tired after a bad night’s sleep” tired — a flat, persistent low energy that coffee doesn’t fix. This is often your body signalling that intake has dropped below what it needs to function well.

2. You’re thinking about food constantly

Constant food thoughts, especially about foods you’d normally have no interest in, is a classic sign of chronic under-eating. It’s a biological drive, not a lack of willpower.

3. Your workouts feel harder than they should

If weights that used to feel manageable suddenly feel heavy, or your usual run leaves you wiped out, low energy availability is often the real culprit.

4. Your weight has stopped moving — in either direction

Counterintuitively, being in too large a deficit for too long can cause your metabolism to adapt downward, stalling progress completely instead of accelerating it.

5. Your mood and sleep have taken a hit

Irritability, poor sleep, and low motivation are common when calorie intake — especially protein — drops too low for too long.

Sustainable fat loss isn’t about eating as little as possible. It’s about eating enough to fuel the process while staying in a moderate, livable deficit.

If any of this sounds familiar, it might be time to recalculate your numbers rather than cut further. Our calorie calculator is a good place to start.
